Dieng plateau is active volcano complex in Wonosobo, Central Java, Indonesia. It located at altitude of 2.000 meters above the sea, so its have cool weather (around 15-20 degrees Celcius). The name derived from Sanskrit language di-hyang which mean the place of God. It has beautiful nature, exotic cultural heritage and tasty culinary.
Well, I travel from Yogyakarta with my own car in about 4 hours. But, for those of you who choose public transport, bus and travel (door to door minibus) are available to take you to reach Wonosobo. After that, the trip continued with a microbus to Dieng for about 1 hour. Natural scenery of green mountains along the road will pamper your eyes .
Telaga warna or The Colorful Lake is very unique lake that reflects the color of green, blue and purple. You can walking around the lake, but prohibited to swim because of its high sulphur contain. You can also play “flying fox” game, flying from one side of the lake to another side with the help of safety rope.
Dieng was an active volcanic region and can be regarded as a giant volcano. Yet despite this volcano has been dead for centuries, some volcanic craters are still active until now. Among them is Kawah Sikidang (Sikidang Crater), which is the water boiling like a deer (kidang) that moving and jumping.
The Plateau is the location of eight small Hindu temples. Built around 750 AD, they are the oldest known standing stone structures in Java. They are originally thought to have numbered 400 but only eight remain. Yes…its small in size compared to Prambanan or Borobudur, but the mountainous view and the cool weather make the temple big in beauty.
The heat from the volcano is utilized to produce electricity at this geothermal plant. The electricity is high enough to fulfill the need of village around them.
Dont forget to taste the delicious Tempeh Kemul and Mie Ongklok Wonosobo. And… the carica is very awesome! Carica, typical small papaya of Dieng is turned into manisan (sweet meals) that always hunted as unique souvenir of Dieng.
